My vision as the pastor and youth pastor of FBC Murphy is to utilize my gifts to relationally build up individuals, students, couples, and families by praying, serving, leading, expository preaching/teaching, and disciple-making to mature the body of Christ to impact the community of Murphy and world with the gospel for generations.

I grew up attending First Baptist Church of Herrin, Illinois. I regularly attended on Sundays and Wednesday nights. As I turned ten years old, I began to sense a conviction to respond to Jesus Christ’s invitation to respond to the gospel. I wasn’t a really bad kid, in my mind, but in the eyes of God I was a sinner. I began to understand the seriousness of my sin and my need for a Savior. I made a decision to repent of my sin and trust in Christ for my salvation during a revival at FBC Herrin. I confessed Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and believed in my heart that he died on the cross to pay the penalty for my sins and that God raised Him from the dead. I was baptized, as an act of obedience, and have continued to nurture my relationship with Christ and remained active in a Southern Baptist church using my gifts and passions to build up the body of Christ.

Intentional discipleship, through the Baptist Student Union at Southern Illinois University, was used by God to draw me into a passionate relationship with Him, where I began to mature significantly in my daily walk with Christ. In the fall of 1988, I attended a state BSU conference where a missionary shared a message from Romans 10:14-15. God used this text and others to convince me that He was calling me to full-time vocational ministry. I shared a public testimony of this commitment to God at FBC after returning home from the conference. I was later licensed at FBC Herrin in 1992 and ordained there in 2005.

I graduated SIU in 1991 with a degree in Biological Sciences and then pursued my Master of Divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. While in seminary, I met Karen Christian, who was a student at Dallas Baptist University. We married on January 8, 1994 at FBC, Garland, Texas, where she had attended most of her life. Through college and seminary I served as a youth pastor in four different churches.

After graduating from SWBTS and DBU we moved to Magnolia, Arkansas in 1996 where I began working with the Arkansas Baptist State Convention as a BSU Campus minister at Southern Arkansas University. We had three children while living in Magnolia – Megan, Christian, and Hayden. I transitioned to Little Rock to serve as the Marriage and Family Minister for the ABSC in 2005, serving as a Team Leader for the Family Ministry Team and then serving on the Evangelism and Church Health Team. I consulted with church staff and lay leaders to revitalize and multiply the kingdom impact of churches through marriage enrichment, parent training, church safety seminars, and preaching most Sundays. I completed a Doctor of Ministry degree at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2012 focusing on family discipleship. In addition to serving as a full time employee with the ABSC for 21 years, I also served as an interim pastor in five different churches.

Karen and I have been married for 24 years and our entire family enjoys doing ministry together. Megan is pursuing a degree in early childhood education. Christian is a high school senior and plans to attend college in the fall. Hayden is an eighth grader. We are excited about serving together with you in Murphy!

Our goal at FBC Murphy is to provide fun and interactive programs that are filled with Christian values and God’s Word to inspire children to GROW in their relationship with Jesus Christ, learning to WORSHIP, to SERVE and SHARE Christ in the world!

John 13:34 – 35 “A new command I give to you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Teaching children God’s unconditional love and compassion will give them the foundation to grow in their faith and become His disciples and build meaningful relationships with others!

I have special memories of attending church when I was a little girl, I would sometimes go with my parents or grandparents, or many times I rode the church bus. Even though my life was full of ups and downs, I knew church was always a great place to be with others. When I became a mom it was even more important to guide my family to focus on God, so I dove into many different roles – baby nursery, teaching Sunday school, AWANA, VBS, Ladies Ministry and working as the Assistant Director in a thriving Mother’s Day Out/Preschool/Kindergarten. Along the way God was leading me to a deeper faith and service to Him. Growing up we didn’t have all of the great programs offered today, so my very first summer camp experience was as a leader at Camp GAP in 2001; I just sat there humbled by the whole experience. It was so exciting to see children worshipping together, learning God’s word in a fun-filled environment. I was overjoyed by the whole experience; during the evening Worship Service God called me to serve full-time in the Children’s Ministry.

Lisa and Ramon have been married for 25 years, they love spending time with family, blessed to be grandparents, and love serving in ministry together.

Matthew 28:19 – 20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

In January 2016 Lorri Reyes joined the staff at First Baptist Church of Murphy to serve as the Church Administrative Assistant. After more than 20 years as a 911 police dispatcher and 10 years serving with preschool-aged children, the Lord directed her to seek a position outside her comfort zone. For most people contacting the church, Lorri is the “face and voice of FBC Murphy”, she sees her position as a place to serve, support and love God, her fellow staff members, the congregation and the community. She trusts God has and will always equip her for His purposes and plan for her life.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the
Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
